What is a DW? And why should you invest in a DW?

DW (Derivative Warrants) is a financial instrument that gives you the right to buy or sell an underlying asset, like stocks or indices. It is ideal for high-risk speculative investors. DWs are traded on the stock exchange, just like regular stocks, and their price moves in relation to the price of the underlying asset, often referred to as the "underlying stock" or "parent stock."

DWs offer the opportunity to profit in both rising and falling markets. If you expect the market to rise, you can trade Call DW; if you expect it to fall, you can trade Put DW. You can trade in both directions and adjust your strategy flexibly.

  • Enhance your existing stock portfolio with leverage (gearing) from DWs.
  • You can start with a small investment, making it ideal for those who want to use their capital effectively.
  • Trade DWs in real-time from your existing stock portfolio without the need to open a new account.

Enhance your portfolio's performance with proactive planning in any market condition.

How to Open an Account

  • Gearing  Provides higher return potential compared to investing directly in the underlying asset.
  • Upside and Downside Trading  A tool for generating profit in both rising and falling markets.
  • Portfolio Insurance Can be used to hedge against risks in your investment portfolio.
  • Lower Minimum Initial Investment  Requires less capital than investing in the underlying asset.

According to SEC regulations, DWs can have an initial lifespan ranging from 2 months to 2 years. However, most DW issuers typically offer DWs with an initial maturity of around 4 to 7 months.

Technical analysis is recommended as it is more effective for analyzing short-term price movements of the underlying asset—aligning well with DW trading strategies, which require timely decision-making for potential gains.

While DWs are suitable for short-term investment, they should not be held too close to maturity. This is because time decay becomes significantly higher as the expiration date approaches. BLS recommends that the holding period should correspond to the remaining maturity of the DW. Investors are advised not to hold DWs with less than one-fifth of their original maturity remaining, to avoid excessive impact from time decay.

You will receive the cash settlement within 8 business days after the last trading day. The amount will be automatically transferred to your bank account linked to your securities account—the same account used for receiving dividends.
