What is SBL? And why should you register for the SBL service?

Securities Borrowing and Lending (SBL) is a mechanism that allows investors to borrow and lend securities, providing more investment options.

  • Lenders: Typically value investors with a long-term investment horizon. By lending out their stocks, they can generate additional returns in the form of lending fees — all without having to sell any holdings from their portfolio.
  • Borrowers: Often seek profit opportunities when stock prices decline. They borrow stocks to sell them at current prices and then buy them back at a lower price when the market drops, returning the borrowed stocks to the lender.

Lenders earn additional income through lending fees when their securities are borrowed, without restrictions on selling those securities at any time, while retaining full ownership and shareholder rights. Borrowers can also take advantage of falling markets by borrowing securities to sell short, unlocking profit opportunities in any market condition.
