What are Derivatives? And why should you invest in Derivatives?

Derivatives are financial instruments whose value is based on underlying assets such as stocks, indices, or gold. They can be used to hedge risks or speculate for profit in both rising and falling markets.

On the Thailand Futures Exchange (TFEX), there are two main types of derivatives:

  • Futures: Contracts between a buyer and a seller to buy or sell an underlying asset today, with delivery and settlement in the future.

  • Options: Contracts that give the buyer the right — but not the obligation — to buy or sell an underlying asset. There are both call options (buy rights) and put options (sell rights).

Derivatives are a flexible investment tool for investors seeking to manage their portfolios more effectively.
