What is Fixed Income? And why should you invest in Fixed Income?

Fixed Income is a financial instrument where issuers, such as governments or private companies, borrow money from investors. In return, investors receive interest payments over a set period and the principal is returned once the bond reaches maturity. The investor is considered the "creditor," while the issuer is the "debtor."

2 Types of Fixed Income:

  • Government Bonds: Examples include government bonds and treasury bills.
  • Corporate Bonds: Examples include corporate bonds and promissory notes.

Fixed Income can be invested in both the Primary Market, where issuers sell new bonds directly to investors (such as through bond or government bond subscriptions), and the Secondary Market, where investors buy and sell previously issued bonds. The Secondary Market enhances liquidity and offers opportunities to profit from price differences in the bonds.
